Position Overview
IITA-Burundi is seeking a qualified and motivated candidate to fill the position of Finance Assistant.
Job Summary
The Finance Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Station Accountant and the overall guidance of the Station Country Representative. The incumbent will provide financial and administrative support to the IITA-Burundi station, including hosted institutions.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Duties:
- Maintain accounts in compliance with IITA regulations and standards.
- Manage financial data, transactions, and maintain electronic and hard copies of supporting documentation.
- Assist the Station Accountant in preparing monthly financial reports with complete supporting documents.
- Support monthly payroll preparation, including overtime calculations.
- Prepare internal and external invoices for payment.
- Maintain payment records and supplier payee statements.
- Process payments for regular office expenses (e.g., rent, advances, utilities).
Financial Support:
- Assist in financial planning and forecasting.
- Maintain petty cash with proper accounting and security measures.
- Assist in budget analysis and update the budget forecast tool.
- Monitor expenditures to prevent budget overruns and assist in preparing amendment requests when necessary.
- Assist staff with the processing of benefit claims.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: B.Sc./HND in Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in a similar role, preferably within a non-profit or development organization.
Competencies
- Knowledge of grants and contract management.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to draft clear financial and project reports.
- Team player with experience working in multicultural environments.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel if necessary.
- Experience with financial management software (e.g., Oracle) is an added advantage.
- Fluency in English is an added advantage
Terms of Service
This position is offered on a two-year renewable contract, subject to a three (3) month probation period. Renewal is contingent on performance and the availability of funding. IITA offers a competitive remuneration package.
